I would like to say thank you to Katera and Kali, along with the lovely Rachel Townsend over at the San Francisco Black Film Festival for allowing Hella Bay Clothing to take part in this years festival. While vending at the Fillmore location, I had the opportunity to meet a host of lovely people from both the film festival and the Juneteenth festival which just happened to be going on out front on Saturday afternoon. Not only did we receive the honor of having the legendary actor and longtime San Francisco native Danny Glover pose with and take home one of our shirts the night of his Q&A, but he were also just honored in general to be a part of such an important event.
Art and creativity are both part of the glue that helps hold the black community together. As a film student who has also taken part in this festival as a filmmaker in the past, I understand how important it is for artists and filmmakers to have their voices heard in a world that sometimes doesn't seem to want to listen amidst all the noise and chaos. We are going through trying times right now, and it's nice to know that San Francisco has allowed a forum for black filmmakers to come together every year and show their work. Until next year!
